Editor’s Note I last reviewed Alone in The Dark in May of 2012

Based on the video game series surrounding a paranormal detective who is investigating an ancient culture known as the Abkani who mysteriously vanished from the earth, because of the demons that they worshiped.

Okay, for those of you who have ever wondered why there are so few, if any decent movies adapted from a video game then director Uwe Boll’s name would probably be at the top of the list. There are a lot of people who hate Boll’s movies, there are even a select few who have got to box the man in an actual match, though obviously we won’t be unpacking Raging Boll here.  Now I have not watched every single movie that Boll has directed but of the 34 movies he is currently credited with directing I feel there are 4 good ones. Alone in the Dark is not one of them. The music seemed over the top and the special effects seemed like they were on the level of the 2001 movie The Mummy Returns directed by Stephen Sommers and the armor of the 713 troopers looked as if they had been lifted directly from Starship Troopers. The cheesy production values of the movie used by Boll can be forgiven. Boll dropped the ball with the performances of Christian Slater and Tara Reid that had virtually no chemistry, though I did like the moment when Reid’s character punched Slater’s in the jaw. But what was completely unforgivable is that Boll gave me no reason to care if the heroes succeeded, a common trap that directors of MCU seem all too capable of falling into.
