HOYTS Acquires Three Western Australian Locations

HOYTS have announced the acquisition of three cinemas in Western Australia, saving them from the possibility of permanent closure. The acquisition was announced alongside plans to save local jobs and retain existing cinema-based staff. After Grand Cinemas entered administration in November 2022, HOYTS entered the bid to save the beloved local cinema venues Warwick Grove, Currambine Central, and Bunbury.
President and CEO of The HOYTS Group Damian Keogh said that the local community is front of mind in the acquisition of these cinemas.
“We are pleased to be able to preserve the local community’s access to big-screen cinema experiences,” Keogh commented “The ability to protect employment opportunities, as well as being able to create more jobs for those in the area, is something that is paramount for our team. HOYTS has a long history of reviving cinemas which includes the historical acquisition of the AMC circuit in Queensland and Victoria, and more recently cinemas facing closure in Cronulla in New South Wales and Arndale in South Australia. This is because we know the market well and believe in our product.”

Keogh explained that operation of the locations by The HOYTS Group begins December 23, 2022, initially operating under the Grand Cinemas name before transitioning all venues to HOYTS cinemas.
“We want to ensure we preserve the existing charm of the Grand Cinemas locations that locals have grown up with,” Keogh commented “The addition of HOYTS features will only improve the cinematic offering for movie-goers while keeping the experience they know and love. Warwick Grove, Bunbury, and Currambine Central will continue to trade as the transition takes place, so customers won’t have their movie-going experience interrupted.”
Keogh said that the implementation of core HOYTS elements, including Xtremescreen, DBOX, and HOYTS LUX experiences, world-class food and beverage options, and access to HOYTS Rewards benefits, will take place throughout 2023.
