Australian Greens Call on WA Minister Marmion to honour his offer

The Australian Greens have called on Western Australia’s Mines Minister Bill Marmion to honour his commitment to drink fracking fluid in light of the WA Water Corporation’s warning today that fracking risks drinking water across the state.
Mister Marmion originally made the offer to drink the fracking fluid in September of last year.
“Now the government’s own Water Corporation is warning fracking could contaminate our drinking water, we want to know if Minister Marmion is still confident enough to drink fracking fluid, as he said he would last year,” Western Australian Greens Senator Scott Ludlam said. “Even if Minister Marmion is happy to ignore the science and risk his own health, he shouldn’t be endangering everyone else’s with his agenda of gas mining at all costs.”
Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens mining spokesperson commented on the dangers of fracking saying “In Queensland, we’ve seen coal seam gas risk our water supplies with asbestos contamination, and in New South Wales we’ve seen water contaminated with uranium. Enough is enough – our health, food security and environment are too important to risk with asbestos, uranium and other contaminants.”
