I’ve often wondered about the line war movies straddle on whether or not they can be considered a piece of propaganda. In most cases, I feel that you should question whether or not a given film is a piece of propaganda based on the amount of time that has passed between when a given movie was filmed and when a war that is being portrayed has ended. Though for the record I consider Lone Survivor to be less of a propaganda movie then Act of Valour. And for those of you sitting at home yes I do realise that you also need to take into consideration how the military is being portrayed in the movie.
This movie was adapted from a book of the same name written by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson. For those armchair historians out there it seems that some liberties where taken with the story for the sake of the overall running time, I got the impression that Lone Survivor did not comes as thrilling as most of the other war movies that I have seen in the past. I suppose the only reason that I actually watched this movie was to get a better idea of what happened during the Afghanistan War¬¬.
It was good to see that the filmmakers approached this story with a certain amount of respect not only just for the Navy Seals and what they did but also for the Taliban fighters because they were not portrayed by some cheap characterization.
