Inspired by a true story. Jun Shik works for Tatsuo’s grandfather’s farm while Korea is colonized by Japan, but he has a dream to participate in Tokyo Olympics as a marathon runner. Tatsuo also aims to become a marathon runner, so the two are rivals. However, war breaks out and they both are forced to enlist in the army.

This is a really interesting story that was inspired by the life of Yang Kyongjong who through sheer circumstance ended up fighting for the Imperial Japanese Army, The Soviet Red Army and The Wehrmacht during world war 2. This movie was not inspired by Yang Kyongjong’s biography. The filmmakers where inspired by a picture taken of Yang Kyongjong dressed in Wehrmact uniform in June of 1944 after he had been captured American paratroopers. It was great to see that My Way was not constrained by a biography and that it was free to be as grand an epic as possible.
