Argo

Argo (f@ck yourself) starring Ben Affleck, John Goodman, Alan Arkin and Bryan Cranston. Ben Affleck directs this dramatization of the escape of 6 American diplomats from Tehran when in 1979 the American Embassy in Iran was overrun by students and 52 Americans were taken hostage for 444 days. These 6 managed to slip away unnoticed and eventually seek refuge in the Canadian Embassy. The students demanded the return of their ousted Shah from the US to stand trial. Affleck plays Tony Mendez a CIA operative with the best worst plan to get the diplomats out of Iran. And so a fake movie is planned with a producer, Hollywood promotion and fake movie crew for Argo a science fiction Star Wars knock off. I thought the movie was tense, leaving you sitting on the edge of your seat with some humor thrown in. Arkin as Lester Seigel and Goodman as John Chambers gave the movie some light relief. Don’t go to see Argo if you are looking for accuracy. This is a Hollywood movie first and not a documentary. The Canadians were a lot more involved in the rescue of these diplomats than is portrayed here- in fact the Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor and Immigration Officer John Sheardon risked their own lives when they hid the Diplomats. Nor is it correct in the movie where it states the British and New Zealand Embassies turned the fleeing Diplomats away. For facts check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Caper. If you are looking to be entertained and you love a good escape movie then try Argo.
