Children’s Medical Research Institute extension at Westmead

A new seven-storey tower extension of the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) will be built at Westmead. The new tower will more than double the Institute’s capacity and put Western Sydney squarely on the map as a focal point for research into cancer, neurological conditions, birth defects, and gene therapy. “This is the first stage of a major redevelopment at Westmead, leading to 300 new jobs and 100 research training positions over the next 10 years. It will boost children’s health and medical research as well as the economic and social infrastructure of Western Sydney.” Professor Roger Reddel and Lorimer Dods Director of CMRI commented.
“This government promised to support the advancement of medical research in NSW and it has delivered. I am proud to see the commitments we’ve made realised so that we can continue to improve health outcomes for children and their families” New South Wales Minister for Health and Minister for Medical Research Jillian Skinner commented.
