United is based on the true story of Manchester United’s legendary “Busby Babes”, the youngest side ever to win the Football League and the 1958 Munich Air Crash that claimed eight of the their number. The film draws on first-hand interviews with the survivors and their families to tell the inspirational story of a team and community overcoming terrible tragedy.

For those of you who have ever wondered the ‘sports’ movie serves the exact same purpose as the ‘chick flick’.
Considering I am a rugby fan and that, I was born twenty-four years after the events portrayed in this movie I have to say that at the start of movie I really was not aware of Manchester United’s legendary “Busby Babes”. Now I cannot help but admire the club, at the time. And the effort to rebuild Manchester United in the aftermath of those tragic events.
Director James Strong brought something different to United, I suppose the best way to explain it is that with most ‘Sport’ movies particularly American ones there is that the matches are played for example in movies such as Rudy (1993) and The Replacements (2000). Strong did not take that direction instead of focusing on the action of the sport he focused on the people and their emotions, this choice only made United even more interesting.
All though according to Matt Busby’s son, the portrayal of his father in the movie was inaccurate I enjoyed Dougray Scott’s performance as Busby. Scott showed a man who had such swagger and confidence both in himself and his team who by the end of the movie seemed to be a man who was just starting to pick himself up after being, knocked to the ground.
