A team of mercenaries head to South America on a mission to overthrow a dictator.
It’s been more than a few years since I last watched The Expendables and as I recall the quality of the franchise steadily deteriorated over the next three movies. Now, when I first watched this I do remember actually liking this movie. For a mindless action movie it had a lot going for it. However, during this viewing by the third act I was starting to struggle to remember why I originally liked the movie. Now, the soundtrack is great. It has all the songs you’d expect in a “Guy’s” action movie. Being the kind of songs you’d stereotypically expect your dad to listen to and yes the soundtrack does a lot of the heavy lifting. The Expendables is actually the second movie I’ve watched in a row where the soundtrack does a lot of the heavy lifting. The first being Exit Wounds. Yes, you’re right, voluntarily watching a Steven Seagal movie is something of a cinematicly self-inflicted injury. Getting back to the third act the climactic assault on the presidential palace came across as something that you would expect from a movie released by The Asylum.
