This past weekend at HOYTS and the Australian box office, horror release Resident Evil debuted at the top spot with $3.68M on its opening weekend. At number two was Practical Magic 2 which brewed up $1.31M, taking the movie’s total box office total to $5.03M. Over 23,000 fans experienced the HOYTS exclusive live cinema broadcast of The Songs of John Farnham: A Living Legend – The Celebration Concert, which came in at number three and earned a total $1.16M at the box office for the one night only event. The top 10 movies together contributed to 90% of the total national gross box office for the weekend.



Still drawing audiences into the cinema is Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey which landed at number four and brought home $812k over its tenth weekend. The movie now has a remarkable cumulative box office of $66.3M. Rounding out the top five this weekend was Coyote vs. Acme, which brought in $799k over its debut weekend. With advance screenings, the movie has brought in $819k at the box office.

9. Hindi title Hanuman Ansh brought in $548k on its opening weekend where it came at number nine. With advance screenings, the movie’s total box office is $645k.
10. Rounding out the top 10, The Transformers: The Movie (40th Anniversary Re-Release) earned $387k, the re-release now has a total of $400k at the box office.
