Australia Post has announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art parcel facility in Toowoomba

Australia Post has announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art parcel facility in Toowoomba, strengthening its network capacity and supporting the continued growth of eCommerce across regional Queensland. Located on Airport Drive next to Wellcamp Airport, the new Toowoomba Parcel Facility will bring together operations from existing Australia Post and StarTrack sites into one purpose-built facility, improving efficiency, safety and service for customers. Opening in mid-2028, the 8,000m2 facility will feature advanced automation capable of processing up to 5,000 parcels per hour. This investment will significantly reduce manual handling and streamline operations. The site will service a large footprint delivering parcels to and from over 100 facilities across 700 Queensland suburbs, reinforcing the important role regional centres play in connecting communities across Australia Post’s broader network. Australia Post Executive General Manager Network Operations, Shane Plant said the investment reflects Australia Post’s commitment to strengthening its network in Metro and regional Australia as eCommerce and customer demand grows.

“Regional centres like Toowoomba are experiencing strong and sustained growth in online shopping, with the region consistently among the highest-volume locations for parcels. We’re evolving our network to better support that demand and the communities and businesses that rely on it. By reducing manual handling and bringing operations together under one roof, we’re also creating a safer, more efficient and sustainable facility with a modern working environment for our team members, so they’re better supported to deliver for our customers every day.” Mr Plant commented “Being right next to Wellcamp Airport is another big advantage. With good access to major road infrastructure and the future opportunity to leverage airside capability we’ll be able to continue our focus on improving the customer experience with improved parcel visibility and delivery times into and out of the region,”

Wagner Corporation, the owner and operator of Wellcamp Airport and Wellcamp Business Park is delighted to be partnering with Australia Post to deliver this new state of the art facility. The new facility will be delivered over the next 18 months and further enhances Wellcamp Business Park as the preeminent location for growing businesses in Toowoomba. Toowoomba-headquartered customer Tentworld Director Jon Burrell said the new facility will support local operations.

“As a family-owned regional business, reliable delivery is critical to meeting our customers’ expectations. We look forward to the opening of this new facility in Toowoomba, which will enable us to deliver products faster and better support our customers right across Australia.” Burrell commented.

The site will incorporate a sustainable design and is planned to feature a 200kW rooftop solar system, rain harvesting tank and electric vehicle charging. Customers will continue to be supported by multiple retail outlets across Toowoomba, with the new site also offering dedicated customer pick-up and drop-off points for StarTrack customers. This investment is part of Australia Post’s broader transformation to modernise its network and deliver faster, more reliable services for communities and businesses across Queensland, with the opening of Australia Post’s largest air and speed hub at Brisbane Airport earlier this year and Sunshine Coast Parcel Facility set to officially open early next year.
