Baron “Bear” Bailey breaks a novelty charm to force his co-worker Nikki Freeman to love him, but the supernatural compulsion warps her mind into violent obsession, trapping him in a nightmare he cannot wish away.

I’ve mentioned before that I don’t usually watch a lot of horror movies, though I’m starting to think that I might have to start making an exception for Blumhouse movies. For those of you who might not have been keeping track of movie release dates Obsession only just became available to rent or buy. Obsession has had an amazing run at the Australian and New Zealand box office and is currently Blumhouse Productions’ highest grossing movie in North America and Worldwide. Obsession, yes it is creepy and there was an awkward tone to most of the dialogue and the movie dives head first into ‘Be careful you wish for’ territory because we all know in most cases your wish is going to get ‘monkey pawed’ on you. BUT it’s not the type of movie that makes it difficult to go to sleep if you just happen to finish watching it after midnight. Though the third act might of come close to that line once or twice. For the record the last movie I remember crossing that line was Jason Eisener’s 2011 movie Hobo With a Shotgun. It jumped over the line while wearing flip flops. Though gory movies do have their place in the world, what I really like from a horror movie is something that’s willing to fuck with your head a little. Writer/Director Curry Baker delivered that. I went into this thinking that everyone cast in this was somebody that I hadn’t seen act before so I was surprised to see Andy Richter pop up in this. Yes I did stop the movie to double check that it was him. Richter definitely was unexpected casting choice. The real star of the movie would have to be Inde Navarrette her performance as Nikki is definitely something to remember.
