Plaza Premium Group opens a new lounge at Sydney Airport Terminal 2

Travellers flying out of Sydney Airport’s Terminal 2 will soon have a brand-new way to relax before taking off, with the opening of the terminal’s newest lounge in early December. The 113-seat, 545 sqm Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney Domestic provides passengers with a comfortable space to unwind ahead of their journey.  The opening marks a major milestone as Plaza Premium Group (PPG), the global leader in integrated 360-degree airport hospitality and passenger service solutions, celebrates ten years of bringing world-class airport hospitality to Australia. Whether you’re heading out on a family holiday, flying interstate for work, or taking a weekend break, you can now add a touch of comfort and convenience to your journey.  Located after security, near gate 49 at Sydney Airport’s T2, serving popular airlines like Virgin Australia and Jetstar, the lounge offers purpose-built spaces designed around how you travel:

  • Intuitive Comfort: Relax in comfortable, modern seating zones tailored for solo travellers, families, and business guests alike.
  • Work & Stay Connected: Enjoy quiet workspaces, high-speed Wi-Fi, and charging facilities to keep devices powered up.
  • Food & Drinks: Refuel with barista-made coffee, locally inspired dishes, and a full-service bar featuring local wines and spirits.

The launch coincides with Sydney Airport’s $200 million transformation of T2, bringing modern facilities and an elevated travel experience to domestic passengers.

“If you are flying out of Sydney’s domestic terminal, options prior to boarding have traditionally been limited,” Cyrus Wong, General Manager, Oceania at Plaza Premium Group commented.”Whether you are a business traveller needing a quiet hour to work, a family heading on holiday, or a solo traveller wanting a comfortable space to relax, we are making a premium airport experience a normal, easy part of domestic travel.”

Mark Zaouk, Group Executive Commercial at Sydney Airport, welcomed the expansion of PPG’s presence at the airport, where the group already operates international lounges and Aerotel Sydney, an in-airport hotel.

“The arrival of Plaza Premium Lounge marks another exciting milestone in the transformation of T2, introducing our first independent, non-airline lounge in the domestic terminals, open to all passengers regardless of airline or ticket class. It’s giving passengers more choice in how they experience the airport and forms part of our broader transformation of the domestic precinct, with new retail, dining and passenger experiences creating a more contemporary T2.” Zaouk commented.

While airport lounges have traditionally been associated with premium travel, PPG pioneered a different approach in 1998, introducing the world’s first independent airport lounge concept and opening access to travellers regardless of airline or ticket class. The group brought that concept to Australia in 2016, opening the country’s first independent international lounge at Brisbane Airport, before introducing Australia’s first independent domestic lounge in Adelaide in November 2025. Now, ten years after arriving in Australia, PPG is investing $20 million to expand and upgrade its airport hospitality network, with Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns at the centre of its next phase of growth.

Alongside the Sydney opening, PPG is undertaking a complete rebuild and redesign of its Brisbane International lounge, transforming the facility into a modern, permanent lounge with upgraded facilities and guest experiences. The investment comes as Brisbane prepares for a new era of international tourism growth, including the anticipated influx of visitors surrounding the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Brisbane Airport is itself undertaking a multibillion-dollar transformation to accommodate future passenger demand. In Tropical North Queensland, PPG will open a new independent domestic lounge at Cairns Airport in early 2027, bringing its accessible lounge concept to one of Australia’s most popular leisure tourism gateways. Serving travellers visiting destinations including the Great Barrier Reef, Port Douglas and the Daintree Rainforest, the new Cairns lounge will extend PPG’s growing domestic network and give more holidaymakers the option of adding a lounge experience to their journey. The Australian expansion follows significant international recognition for PPG. In September, the group was named World’s Best Airport Lounge Group at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, continuing ten consecutive years of recognition, while Plaza Premium Lounge Adelaide was named Oceania’s Leading Airport Lounge at the 2026 World Travel Awards.

“A decade ago, we introduced our independent lounge concept to Australia in Brisbane with a vision to make premium airport hospitality accessible to all travellers,” Mei Mei Song, Chief Transformation Officer at Plaza Premium Group commented “Ten years in Australia, ten lounges and ten consecutive years of Skytrax airport lounge awards – these are milestones we are incredibly proud of. Australia has become one of our most vital growth markets globally, and this $20 million investment reaffirms our long-term commitment to the region as we continue to redefine the travel experience across major Asia-Pacific transit hubs.”
