Screen Queensland has announced that filming has commenced on Jump, a high-stakes survival thriller from acclaimed New Zealand director Tearepa Kahi (Muru, Mt. Zion).  Filming on Queensland’s Gold Coast, including Tamborine Mountain, the gripping feature stars rising talent Bella Shepard (Star Trek: Starfleet Academy) and Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent, Chief of War, Evil Dead Burn) and follows a young traveller whose quest for escape and adventure turns into a brutal fight for survival.  Supported by Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Fund, Jump is an official Australia-New Zealand co-production, written by Glenn Standring and produced by Queensland filmmaker and screenwriter Tom Blackwell and New Zealand producer Matthew Metcalfe. Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said Jump highlights Queensland’s reputation as a destination for globally connected screen production. 

“The production brings together acclaimed international talent and local screen practitioners, reinforcing Queensland’s ability to deliver ambitious productions with global appeal.” Minister Langbroek commented “Supported through Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Fund, the production is expected to inject an estimated $3.1 million into the Queensland economy while employing 59 local cast and crew, creating valuable opportunities for local businesses.” 

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said international co-productions continue to strengthen Queensland’s screen sector and create new pathways for local talent. 

“Co-productions are increasingly important to the future of screen production, attracting new investment, expanding global partnerships and opening opportunities for Queensland creatives to work on internationally focused projects.” Feeney commented “This project reflects the strength of the creative and production relationship between Queensland and New Zealand while showcasing the depth of talent across our local industry.” 

Jump joins a growing slate of Screen Queensland-supported co-productions including FING!, Dustfall, The Mark, Kung Fu Deadly and We are Still Here.  The film is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Fund, The Gold Coast Film Commission and Invest Gold Coast’s Screen Attraction Program.
