June 29 – Hoyts and the Weekend Australian Box office

Buzz, Woody and crew held onto the top spot again this week at HOYTS and the Australian box office where Toy Story 5 drove in $6.17M this weekend, bringing its total to $18.12M. Debuting at number two was Minions & Monsters with $3.36M while Supergirl flew in at number three with $2.43M for its opening weekend. Horror thriller Obsession came in at number four earning another $1.42M – which brings its overall total to a whopping $20.91M. Rounding out the top five this weekend was Emily Blunt in Disclosure Day which earned $935k and brings its overall total to $8.27M.



Cinema continues to thrive with admissions up 16% YOY as we approach the halfway point of the year. HOYTS ended the weekend in the #1 spot for the 19th week in a row. The top 10 movies together contributed to 89.48% of the total national gross box office for the weekend. HOYTS had five sites in the top 10 this week: Carousel #1, Chadstone #2, Melbourne Central #4, Karrinyup #8 and Highpoint #9. Animation was the top genre this weekend with Toy Story 5 and Minions & Monsters dominating the top two spots of the week.

  1. Toy Story 5 spent its second week in the top spot, earning $6.17M over the weekend. The movie has made $18.12M to date at the box office.
  2. Minions & Monsters debuted in second for its opening weekend bringing in $3.36M.
  3. Supergirl flew in at number three, earning $2.43M in its opening weekend.
  4. Obsession came in at number four and gained another $1.42M in its seventh weekend. The total box office for the horror flick is now a jaw-dropping $20.91M.
  5. Disclosure Day came in at number five and brought home $935k this weekend, which brings its overall total to $8.27M.
  6. Dear You uncovered $755k and debuted at six for its opening weekend. Advance screenings brings this movie’s total box office to $789k.
  7. Backrooms came in at number seven and brought home another $424k over the weekend, bringing its cumulative box office to a striking $13.92M.
  8. Scary Movie landed at number eight and earned $373k this weekend. The movie has now earned a total of $8.46M at the box office.
  9. Michael gained another $233k on its tenth weekend and its total box office is an electrifying $45.55M. The movie is now the highest-grossing biopic of all time.
  10.  Rounding out the top 10, Carry On Jatta 4 brought home $223k at the box office for its opening weekend.
