A small town video game store clerk must go from zero to hero after accidentally unleashing the forces of evil from a cursed Colecovision video game cartridge.

Though everybody should hold on to their DVDs and possibly even their VHS tape but sometimes, just sometimes you have to go to streaming platforms like TUBI to watch some of the more indie movies that you want to watch. For some reason the opening sequence of Max Reload reminded me of the 2004 Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light I also thought that perhaps the reference to Leeroy Jenkins in the MMORPG being played at the start of the movie was a little cliched even for 2020 standards and wasn’t needed. I know there are jokes to be made at Max Reload expense about computer coding but I know I don’t have the depth of knowledge about computer coding to make a good one. This definitely comes across as a “teen” movie yet it’s still watchable for those of you who might no longer find yourself in that demographic any more. The direction of one or two of the minor plot points are easily telegraphed but it doesn’t affect the watching experience in a negative way while the transitions clearly inspired by the 1985 video game Paperboy did have a certain charm to them.
It’s been awhile since i last saw Kevin Smith in an acting role, Smith’s character who really didn’t have much to do with the main story still managed to have some funny moments though some of the VR games his character played were slightly disturbing. I LOVED Lin Shaye performance as Mrs. Wylder and was a little to see that Martin Kove popped up in this.
