Twisted Vines

Director Jihane Mrad Balaa
Starring Brande Roderick, Brian Borello, Jon Briddell, Michael Paré & Vivica A. Fox
Score 5/6

Set in a beautiful, picturesque wine country, Bed and Breakfast, the intimate, elegant wedding of the estate owner’s daughter to her beau, brings out the best and worst of the wedding guests, including the bride and groom’s parents. The simplest exchanges are riddled with long held secrets. The festivities are interrupted when a fire threatens the property.

Judging by the first couple of minutes of the movie, part of me was expecting Twisted Vines to be an anthology of a couple of stories set in the same setting. It wasn’t, I was glad it wasn’t. Apparently Twisted Vines was the first feature length movie from Jihane Mrad Balaa and along with writers Corinne Sbeih & Tom Stohlgren delivered an interesting take on the classic murder mystery, I hope that they come out with a couple more murder mysteries. I enjoyed Michael Paré’s performance it had an interesting Frank Sinartraish quality and I loved the moments his character had with Vivica A. Fox, who played his wife, I might have to check out a few more movies starring Fox (any suggestions?). Nikki Leigh’s performance as Tina Ryan. I loved her character’s introduction.I thought that it was very clever how Mrad Balaa structured the interview conducted by the Sheriff.
