Okay. In the past I really haven’t really written much about movie marathons or binge watching a recent article I read has kicked me in the pants to sit down and write this. Something that I’m sure more than a few of you know is that the invention of video streaming services like Prime Video and Netflix caused the death of the video rental stores (for those of you who are too young to have.gone to a video rental store is where you would go to get a hold of your favorite movie if you missed it at the cinema before it was broadcast on Television) fundamentally changed how we look at movie marathons. In my opinion without the video stores there was less of a need to visit the Fish and chip/pizzeria takeaway stores and we became more reliant on food service delivery services for catering our at home cinematic endeavors. Leaving us at a higher risk of cold pizza.




It should be noted that since 1990 records for voluntary sleep deprivation are no longer kept by Guinness World Records for fear that participants will suffer ill effects. So, what’s a good length for a movie marathon? Well, for a single day movie marathon I would suggest a runtime of about 6 hours (which is roughly 3 times the current world record for the men’s marathon) and an absolute maximum of 9 hours or roughly 3 to 5 movie titles. Now if your movie marathon is going to go over multiple days, (like over 3 days on a long weekend?) I would suggest especially if you are working through a series of movies longer than 5 titles that you break things up and work in a few episodes of your favorite show that is 30 minutes or perhaps even a few classic Looney Tunes cartoons to save yourself from going a little peculiar.
