A young gay man from an affluent Ugandan family faces deportation after a brush with the law. If returned to his homeland, he’ll face the consequences of strict anti-homosexual persecution. As the case is taken to the courts, his Nigerian attorney also finds himself struggling to define his own cultural identity and be able to live the life he chooses with an American girl, regardless of his family’s traditional expectations.

Breaking Bounds is a good movie that could have been great watching Breaking Bounds. I got the impression that it could have been completely separate yet interesting movies. Just quickly before getting too much further into things it should be noted that Breaking Bounds was also known as Hyde Park. I haven’t seen any other movies directed by Mark Harris, are there any other movies directed by Harris that I should check out?  Going into this i genuinely thought that this was going to be some sort of legal drama especially given how concerning Uganda’s anti-LGBTQ+ laws are and then there was then there was the heavy monologue Diamond Sonpon had as Eric’s mother had in the third act of movie about why her son couldn’t go back to Uganda. Unfortunately, the entire plot line seemed as if it was treated the exact same way you’d expect a legal procedural tv show to treat its ‘B-Plot’. Both Kenneth Okolie and Dawn Halfkenny gave decent enough performances as David and Lola. I liked their onscreen chemistry, while  there were some great comedic moments that had me laughing out loud, particularly between Okolie and Henry Mamulu who played his dad. I’m not sure if this should have been filed under missed opportunity, but I would have loved to have seen David being guilted into going on a date with a girl his mother was trying to force on to him.
