In New York City, a young guy falls for the daughter of his father’s nemesis.

Okay, I’ll admit this movie has been sitting on my to-watch list for a long time. Not as long as some movies but it was sitting on the list for long enough. I went into this not really remembering if i had seen a trailer for Die In a Gunfight and I wasn’t familiar with most of the people cast in the movie perhaps with the exception of Travis Fimmel and Emmanuelle Chriqui (it has been a little while since I last saw Chriqui in a movie).
We all know that we have entered where there are more than a few remakes, reimaginations and reinterpretations set loose upon in the cinemas every year and a lot of the time it is a tool used by lazy filmmakers which usually without fail only manages to piss off fans of the source material. Now I suppose considering there has been so many different takes on the star crossed lovers of Romeo and Juliet the stakes would have been a little less then say with something like remaking a beloved movie from either the 1980’s or 1990’s. Director Collin Schiffli along with writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari actually delivered something that was actually fun and worth watching. Now they achieved this (for those lazy filmmakers out there who have tried and failed at a remake, reimagination or reinterpretation I’ll type this next part slowly) by sticking closely enough to the source material while bringing something new and different to the project all while not insulting and going to war with the fans of the source material. It’s that easy! I thought it was really interesting how they used the narrator.
I did enjoy the performances of Diego Boneta and Alexandra Daddario as the star crossed lovers. However, I loved the performances of Travis Fimmel and Emmanuelle Chriqui. They came across as what could easily be described as a lighter and more romantically inclined Joker and Harley Quinn. I thought that Fimmel almost stole the entire movie. It was great to see that there was more substance to the ‘Paris’ character played by Justin Chatwin.
