A department store executive can’t help but fall in love with a beautiful young woman who he believes has magical powers.

Alright, I suppose I have to admit that Simply Irresistible is on my list of guilty pleasure films. I’m not entirely sure where it is on the list but when I was younger and prettier I had a slight crush on Sarah Michelle Gellar. Just to put things into context she was in Buffy at the time this film was made. Buffy The Vampire Slayer ran from 1997 until 2003 and Simply Irresistible was released in 1999. Also reading about the film I discovered that Gellar stated that this was one of her least favorite films she had been in.
This isn’t the best of movies and yes it has been more than a few years since I last watched this. I know it’s an unfair comparison given that Chef was released 15 years after Simply Irresistible but the success of ‘food porn’ movies like Chef I am certain there needed cookingcentric scenes throughout the movie. This certainly is one of those finding your passion movies that has a prominent charming/cute quality to it highlighted by the dance scene in the restaurant while it is still under construction.  But I couldn’t shake the feeling that the movie is starting to date itself. I really enjoyed Amanda Peet’s performance even though she was in the movie for like 5 minutes and I also enjoyed Patricia Clarkson’s performance. I loved the scenes she had with Sean Patrick Flanery. If you’re wondering why I decided to revisit Simply Irresistible, I suppose it is because there are certain scenes in movies that I’ll always revisit and Simply Irresistible has a couple, my favorite being the last few minutes of the third act of the movie from the flight of the paper plane.
