The Suicide Squad

squadDirector James Gunn
Starring Margot Robbie, Idris Elba & John Cena
Rated MA
Score 5.5/6

Supervillains Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and a collection of nutty cons at Belle Reve prison join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X as they are dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.

Okay, there was a small amount of procrastination on my part as to when I was going to get around to watching this, though there is no real need to do any homework and rewatch the previous Suicide Squad movie before watching this, I find that by their very nature comic book loose something when you don’t watch them on the big screen. Sadly, I did not get the chance to watch this on a cinema sized screen, though after hearing good things about King Shark I felt that I had to check this movie out. I loved the opening and things really seemed to go from 0 to 100 quickly and in places is certainly one of the gorier comic book movies that has been released in recent years. I liked what James Gunn delivered to the screen and the way its nonlinear storytelling seemed to embrace the story’s comic book origins. Even though this isn’t a direct continuation of the previous movie It was good to see that Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Margot Robbie reprised their roles. I loved the dynamic between Ratcher 2 and King Shark and I also thought that this version of Harley Quinn was definitely Margot Robbie’s best but that was only to be expected considering this is the third time she has played the character. I felt that the dynamic between Peacekeeper and Bloodsport very amusing in an immature childish sort of way. I loved the use of use of Louis Prima’s I Ain’t Got Nobody in the soundtrack.
