Masha, a gynaecology doctor, is so absorbed by her work that she doesn’t immediately come to notice that her husband is about to leave her. Her life is shattered: Masha is overloaded at work, and her kids are demanding constant attention. Used to winning, Masha isn’t ready to hand over her beloved husband to a young and stunning-looking fitness trainer. Masha won’t stop at anything to get him back, including turning to supernatural forces. But her new life opens up new opportunities, so is this old barely flickering flame really worth reigniting?

Okay, another film that is featured in the Russian Film Festival. the original title in Russian Davay razvedyomsya! translates (according to Google Translate) into Let’s Get Divorced! Personally, I kind of liked the title Another Woman. With a title like Let’s Get Divorced! personally I would have expected a sillier movie that followed in the tradition of the British Carry on movies and even though Another Woman does have its comedic moments it definitely not a silly movie.
This is another one where I found where the sense of humor didn’t seem to get lost in translation, there is even one joke towards the start of the movie that in all honesty is probably as old as time itself, there are a couple of other jokes that had me crying with laughter. The scenes at the police station might have been a bit of an omg moment in a cultural sense and they helped me appreciate Anna Mikhalkova’s performance as Masha, I also liked the dynamic her character had with her mother. There are also more than a few moments I am sure parents will definitely relate to particularly a longing given to the wine aisle at the supermarket.
It was interesting to see the differing attitudes towards love and marriage, the schemes Masha tries to get her husband back, as well as the contrast between the city and the country as well as where Masha and her family lived, I assume it was the early stages of a new housing development. Oh one last thing the bed time story told to those kids ….. yikes.
