Music manager Gina Jackson whose life is shattered when her brother and lead vocalist, Vaughn, is killed in a tragic accident. Ten years later, when a young guitar prodigy Oak Scoggins enters her orbit, she becomes convinced that this young man is the reincarnation of Vaughn, but is he?

After seeing the trailer for Mighty Oak I knew that I had to at least give this one a chance even though I wasn’t overly familiar with anybody involved with the production of this movie. I’m not entirely sure when this is going to get released to Australian audiences but I would like that parents of younger movie watchers shouldn’t need to devise cruel and unusual punishments if Mighty Oak strikes a chord with your children and is watched multiple times because I enjoyed the soundtrack. We have all heard that with musical instruments most of the time filmmakers get actors to mime and have a guitar double for them, I have to admit that there is a small part of me that hopes that Tommy Ragen who played Oak Scoggins didn’t have a guitar double. Ragen gave a good performance and I’m interested to see what roles gets in the future. Janel Parrish gave a performance and some great moments with Ragen and also with Carlos PenaVega.
Perhaps Mighty Oak is a little predictable in places but that’s to be expected from a family movie, sure it does deal with the concept of reincarnation and there is a couple of touching scenes but it doesn’t jump down the rabbit hole to fully explore the idea but then again with its US PG-13 rating it would have been an odd move by the filmmakers if it did.
