What did you think of The Rise of Skywalker?

Score 3/6

The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more in the final chapter of the Skywalker saga.

The Disney sequel and the Skywalker is finally at an end. I suppose with these sorts of things you really shouldn’t say never, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Skywalker clan crop again at some point in future Star Wars movies.
It turned out that I did not need to be as nervous about the kind of movie The Rise of Skywalker was going to be as I was (it should be noted that I didn’t by a ticket for the Midnight screening until the day before the release). It should be noted that given the fan backlash over the past few years and the subsequent retaliation by Lucasfilm, The Rise of Skywalker needed to be a flawless film. It isn’t. I was surprised that The Rise of Skywalker wasn’t as bad as it could have been considering that the movie has had more leaks then the men’s room at the MCG. What it needed to be was a love letter to the fans, in reality it was average. I’m sure more than a few people will find The Rise of Skywalker to be forgettable.
It was good to see that JJ Abrams got to finish out the trilogy though this would not have been so forgettable if Disney had of exercised some directorial continuity.
I enjoyed the festival that the Aki-Aki held on their planet Pasaana and the moment Rey had with an Aki-Aki child was adorable. I would also be lying if I said I did not pop for the use of John Wiliams’ music during the final battle.
Some of the sacrifices made throughout the movie didn’t get to be as noble as they could have been which if you think about it seems to be a running thing for the trilogy. Also some of the scenes seemed to have been written very sloppily, but I suppose that it is a symptom of all the rumored reshoots.
Though it was good to see Ian McDiarmid one last time as The Emperor, it really did seem to lessen the impact of the events of The Return of the Jedi.
