Season Four of The Break

The BBC Writersroom is launching The Break from Northern Ireland this year, giving writers the opportunity to see their script developed, produced and broadcast on BBC Three. The aim of the series, now in its fourth year, is to find the best original, contemporary stories that reflect the diversity of modern day Northern Ireland with a focus on issues and stories that are important to young people locally and further afield. Shortlisted writers will develop their work with the BBC Writersroom, including workshops and one-to-one sessions with a script editor. The final five successful stories will be broadcast on BBC Three next year.

“We’re thrilled to launch series four of The Break in Northern Ireland; the series has a proud history of unearthing fantastic new voices and it’s a brilliant opportunity for writers. The brief is for contemporary, bold, nuanced and authentic writing so we’re excited about who we might uncover. We want to receive resonant stories we don’t usually hear from this part of the world and present them to as wide a BBC Three audience as we can.” Commissioning Editor for Drama, Tommy Bulfin, commented.
“I am delighted that series four of The Break is being made in Northern Ireland. There is a wealth of local writing talent, and we are looking forward both to working with writers who we know, and discovering others that we don’t. We are excited to see what stories writers want to tell on BBC Three about modern life in such a unique place – whether those stories are personal, dramatic, surreal, funny or dark.” Anne Edyvean, Head of Writersroom, commented.
