WWE Super Show-Down Headed to Melbourne

Melbourne will be the centre of the WWE universe later this year when the wrestling spectacular, WWE Super Show-Down, comes to the Melbourne Cricket Ground in October. The Andrews Labor Government today announced that WWE Super Show-Down will be the largest wrestling event ever to be held in Australia, eclipsing the Global Warning event which welcomed 56,743 people to Etihad Stadium in 2002.
“The eyes of the world will be on the MCG in October when thousands of visitors from across Australia and the world descend on our great city for WWE Super Show-Down.” Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren commented “We’ll keep bringing the best events to our state because these events are good for our economy, good for our tourism industry and good for local jobs.”
Minister Eren went on to explain that WWE Super Show-Down strengthens Melbourne’s position as the sport and live entertainment capital of Australia and raises Victoria’s profile on the international stage, with WWE to be broadcast globally to millions of people in 24 languages. The Minister also added that WWE Super Show-Down was secured by the Labor Government thanks to the Major Events Fund, which was recently boosted by $4.5 million in the Victorian budget 2018/19.
WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon explained that Melburnians, alongside thousands of fans from around Australia and the world, will witness WWE’s unique brand of action-packed sports entertainment. Some of the sport’s biggest names will participate including John Cena, Ronda Rousey, the Undertaker, Triple H and Australia’s own Billie Kay and Peyton Royce of The Iconics.
“WWE Super Show-Down will be an epic event. Our Partnership with Paul Dainty reflects our ongoing commitment to the market and provides an opportunity to deliver an event of this magnitude.” Mr. McMahon commented.
“WWE Super Show-Down will be one of the biggest sports and entertainment events of the decade. This once-in-a lifetime spectacular will showcase Australia to a global audience of millions in one of the world’s most iconic stadiums.” TEG Dainty President and CEO Paul Dainty commented.
