Strays

Director Steven Tandy
Starring Ella Crotty, Brandon Humphrey & Jackson Kay
Score 5/6

STRAYS focuses on the new relationship between two young outcasts, Riley and Ruby, who meet after a chance encounter. Despite being victims of circumstance and their environment, they attempt to make a connection and give each other hope. However, they soon get caught up in each other’s lives full of shame, revenge, regret and violence.

I know I only have so much time on my hands and there are some movies and short movies that I will never get the chance to watch. But I am actually glad that I got the chance to watch Steven Tandy’s short Strays.
Ella Crotty, Brandon Humphrey and Jackson Kay (who played Ruby, Adam and Riley) where all great casting choices and seemed to play very well off of each other. One of the things that gets me really excited about Australian movies is that there is so much beautiful scenery on offer to be brought to the screen and Tandy did that with Strays and filming in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria.
What I really loved about Strays was that even though the plot of the movie flirted with the line Tandy left some things up to the audience’s imagination and did not let his movie cross on over into teenage soap opera territory.
