Score 4/6

Amidst a territorial gang war in 1997, a sophisticated alien hunter stalks the citizens of Los Angeles and the only man between him and his prey is veteran L.A.P.D. officer, Lieutenant Mike Harrigan.

Predator 2 is set 10 years after the original movie and both Predators in each of the movies where portrayed by Kevin Peter Hall.

John McTiernan did not return to direct the sequel which I would have liked to have seen, because directorial continuity is important but considering the next film in the franchise really didn’t occur for another twenty years we can let that slide. I’m not overly familiar with director Stephen Hopkins’ work though it should be noted that at the time both Hopkins and McTiernan had directed fewer than five movies. Considering that Predator is still relatively fresh in my mind, I can’t help but hold the sequel in higher regard then the original. Because Hopkins seemed able to bring higher level of tension to his movie. Because the presence of the Predator in Los Angeles made a dire situation worse.

Danny Glover gave a decent performance though Glover’s portrayal of Harrigan was not his best performance in an action movie. Though Glover does have the best line in the movie. I really did not expect to see Bill Paxton in this and I got the impression that Gary Busey was still coasting on the overall look that he had in Lethal Weapon.
