And The Word is Post-Truth

Well in case you haven’t heard the 2016 word of the year is Post-Truth which is defined as :

‘Relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief’

And if your to believe American late night talk show host Mr Stephen Colbert Post-Truth derives from the word Trumpiness. Now I suppose if we look at this new word, that we have been officially gifted by Oxford , especially in the light of certain aspects of the coverage of a certain election. You know the one I’m talking about. The one that gave us a president-elect with a hair style similar to Australian Television Icon and National Treasure Mr Burt Newton circa 1995-2005. Working to provide news and current affairs content can take a slightly different turn. I believe that turn can be accurately described as creative writing and such a decision could actually be highly profitable. It certainly seems to have helped influence how people think. But you should realize in case you haven’t already what they did to influence that election wasn’t journalism it was propaganda. Well here is the thing, I can’t do that. The overall revenue for The Movie Boards says I should take a similar turntowards propaganda, but I can’t.
Here’s why, it goes back to something that learnt at CIT from a teacher by the name of Jeff, and it is something that a few journalists might of forgotten and it is that

“Facts are Sacred”

This might sound a little bit of a high and mighty thing to say and for the record the total number of Movie Boards staff writers can be counted on one hand. However, I’d like to think that this is something that I’m going to hold on to no matter what direction I take News & Current Affairs while writing for The Movie Boards.
