Flinders Street Station Improvements to Commence

Premier Daniel Andrews joined Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan today to announce the contract to transform Flinders Street Station, and reveal new details about the extensive improvements that will be delivered through the Andrews Labor Government’s $100 million project.
Premier Andrews explained that Australian construction company Built Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to refurbish the historic Administration Building. Works will begin in the coming weeks and will include fixing the leaky roof, restoring the crumbling façade and re-painting the more than 100 year-old building.
“Flinders Street is at the heart of our train system and our city – it’s an icon of Melbourne and it’s time to give it the attention it deserves.” Premier Andrews commented “Our practical project will fix Flinders Street Station – restoring the crumbling building, fixing the leaks, and making the station more functional for the 200,000 passengers that use it every day.”
“The new entrances, ticketing and passenger information to make it easier to get in and out of the busy station, and get to the right platform at the right time, to get the train.” Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan commented “We’re fixing the leaky roof, restoring the crumbling walls and giving the station a new lick of paint to return this grand old dame to its former glory, and make it a place passengers, visitors and everyone in Melbourne can be proud of once again.”
