A former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopting the alter ego Deadpool.

For those of you who were not paying attention to the marketing surrounding the release of Deadpool is rated R in the USA but for the purposes of an Australian audience translates to an MA 15+. I found it how interesting how the ratings of movies differ from country to country.

Okay now on with the review.

Right another comic book movie has hit the friendly neighbourhood cinemas, time to get that groan out of your system because yes it was another origin story. Though yes, Deadpool has not been given a feature length movie. I suppose if I was going to nitpick about any flaws for this it would be the use of “Rookie” director in the form of Tim Miller. Sorry to those of you who visit The Movie Boards on a regular basis I know I must sound like a broken record when I go on about this point. But after watching Deadpool I think I might be able to start to give this little pet peeve of mine. For the record this was Miller’s first feature length project. Now it’s easy to have hatred for comic book movies especially considering it seems that they are churned out like toilet paper. But, but this does not seem to be the case here, the filmmakers should be congratulated for delivering a ‘superhero origin movie’ that does not find itself getting dragged by the ‘origin’ part of the movie. Now if all the superhero movies that are going to be unleashed on the cinema going public can be half as good as Deadpool it will enable me to stop me from fantasizing about wreaking some sort of broccoli related vengeance on an ever growing list of filmmakers.
As actors go Ryan Reynolds really was the perfect choice to portray Deadpool and he had a great on screen chemistry with Ed Skrein as Ajax.

This is Ryan Reynolds fifth time in a comic book movie and he is the second actor Reynolds is the second actor to have a title role in a DC Comics movie and a Marvel Comics movie. Halle Berry was the first and Ben Affleck will be the third.
