In the dead of a Wyoming winter, a bounty hunter and his prisoner find shelter in a cabin currently inhabited by a collection of nefarious characters.

Before I get too far into things I have a question maybe somebody can answer it for me but I’ll be just as comfortable if nobody answers it for me. There is a line in the movie ‘One of them fellas is not what he says he is…’ is it wrong that the first thing that entered my mind when I heard that line was the sesame street song ‘one of these things’?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again one of my favourite genre of movies to watch are Westerns. Now most of the westerns that I have watched in recent years have been awful, with bad acting or bad directing and in some cases a combination of both it was so refreshing to see an offering from a director like Quentin Tarantino who approached the genre with a certain level of respect (while infusing his own cinematic flair. People who enjoyed how the Kill Bill story was told, should enjoy this) that has given me hope that genre hasn’t died just yet.
Now for the record no I did not watch the 70mm print of The Hateful Eight, but that would have required a road trip but I was not in an ‘organised’ enough mood to sort that out for myself.
The sound track was a little different to most movies; usually you would expect something that would gently ease you into the movie as you got comfortable and started to eat your choc top. But instead The Hateful Eight immediately commands your attention. Jennifer Jason Leigh was brilliant in this and deserves her Oscar nomination for best supporting actress (though I wish that Oscars where on a little latter in the year so I can have better opportunity to see as many of the nominated movies as possible) on some level I’m pretty sure that I sympathised with her character. There was broad range of actors and actresses cast in this some who I was familiar with quite a few that I wasn’t. Given the time period of the movie I thought it was kind of interesting that New Zealand actress Zoe Bell was cast in this movie (though she has worked with Tarantino on other projects) and it was also cool to see Walton Goggins get a role as after a brief look at his filmography it appears that somewhat of a chameleon as he has appeared in a lot of movies that I watched.
