The Abominable Bride Most Watched Festive Season Programme

holmesSherlock was the most watched programme between 21 December 2015 and 1 January 2016 across all channels. 11.6 million viewers tuned in to see Sherlock Holmes and John Watson solve the case of The Abominable Bride, according to consolidated viewing data.
“After a two year wait, it’s incredible to see the indisputable power of Sherlock bringing the nation together to make it the biggest show of the festive season. It’s a tribute to the talented team behind this much loved show.” Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One commented.
“We are thrilled to be a hit in both 2016 and 1895.” Sue Vertue, Producer of Sherlock said. Vertue went on to explain that The Abominable Bride is the second most watched Sherlock episode ever with 11.6 million viewers, second only to series three episode one The Empty Hearse (2014) which achieved a consolidated audience of 12.7 million. The Abominable Bride also had the highest ever share of the audience for a Sherlock episode, at 40.2 per cent. Adding that the next biggest programme of the festive season, was the New Year’s Eve London fireworks display, which had a consolidated audience of 11.4million.
