A continuation of the saga created by George Lucas set thirty years after Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983).

It’s here. It’s finally here. Now before I get too far into the review in the interest of full disclosure (with the full knowledge that everybody might never again take my opinion on movies seriously) I didn’t mind episodes 1 through 3 that much. However, I will admit to believing that with Anakin’s fall to the Dark side, this would have affected the Jedi council and Padmé to a greater degree. Also I checked out of reading the novels of the expanded universe not that long after the introduction of the GST in Australia. Oh and to those of you out there who thought that Disney’s purchase of Luscasfilm would bring about the geek Apocalypse here are some recipes for crow and humble pie that you might need.

Sitting a couple hours after finishing watching The Force Awakens during a matinee session on opening day I’m still a little bit surprised by the fact that the cinema was about three quarters full and the fact to my knowledge none of the ‘Midnight’ screenings sold out considering how eagerly anticipated this was.
Director JJ Abrams delivered a pretty solid story, I only hope that Abrams is involved with the production of episodes 8 and 9 only to keep a sense of style continuity for the trilogy. Now without giving any spoilers, there was a part of me that couldn’t help but think that there was certain parts of the movie where they going right back to the very beginning of the franchise. Though this is probably because the franchise is 38 years old and things are bound to have been repeated a few times over the years in various incarnations.
It was good to see Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew and Anthony Daniels all reprise their roles. New comers to the universe Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac gave decent performances however, I found that I was a little unsure of Adam Driver’s performance who portrayed Kylo Ren.
