11-year-old Dylan is growing up motherless in the remote backcountry of Australia. But when Dylan’s passion for flight and inventive spirit land him a hard-won spot in the regional Paper Plane Championships in Sydney, a dream is born and the young boy will contend with a lack of funds and a disapproving father to reach the World Paper Plane Championships in Japan.

Okay, I do vaguely remember seeing this one when it had its run at the friendly neighborhood cinema but never really got around to going see it, I suppose considering the movie’s G rating I was never motivated to organize the perquisite rent-a-kid. For those of you who might not read regularly read my reviews it should noted that I tend to avoid watching family movies at the cinema by myself to avoid any judgmental stares from any parental figures. Though considering the age of the main character Dylan, this might be a movie for families with older children.
For those of you who might be interested the movie was inspired by Dylan Parker and James Norton as well as being loosely based on a 2009 episode of ABC’s Australian Story called “Fly with Me”.
Even though Paper Planes could be considered to be a little clichéd, I thought that it could be easily over looked because of the movie’s overall feel good spirit.
Sam Worthington gave a decent enough performance but I was actually kind of impressed with Ed Oxenbould’s performance. With all the movies that I watch and my memory at times I really hope that I don’t forget Ed Oxenbould’s face because clearly is a talent to keep an eye on.
