Vic Govt welcomes 2500 new teachers

More than 66,000 teachers and principals started back at school today with almost one million kids seeing the end of their holidays. The start of the 2015 school year has also seen 2500 ‘grads’ who are starting their new careers as qualified teachers in Victorian government schools.
Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Education, James Merlino, visited Braybrook College today to meet and congratulate seven new teachers who have a busy school year ahead of them.
“Our newest teachers are embarking on a truly rewarding profession – helping our children learn, opening their eyes to our world and everything in it.” Mr Merlino commented.
Mr Merlino explained that Braybrook College has employed a record number of graduates this year in subject areas as diverse as PE, science, literacy and humanities. Merlino added that the College is supporting the grads through a mentoring program. Every week during Term 1, they will meet with a leading teacher and a mentor to discuss any issues and receive guidance.
“The first day of school is a milestone, and today we thank the teachers who work so hard to make it special.” Mr Andrews commented “Our kids are in good hands, because Victorian teachers give them the best start.”
