After a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, Olympian Louis Zamperini spends a harrowing 47 days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before he’s caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

Ok, I got around to watching this one the day that the nominations for the 87th Academy Awards were announced. From what I have read there are some people who are suggesting that Unbroken may have been snubbed for an Oscar nomination. Personally I’m not so sure. Granted, Louis Zamperini’s story is interesting and the lines “If you can take it, you can make it.” and “One moment of pain is worth a lifetime of glory,” have their own inspirational value but as a movie wasn’t quite worthy of a nomination for Best Picture or Best Director Oscar, I also believe that Angelina Jolie should have devoted more of the movie to Zamperini’s life as a prisoner of Japan, I kind of got the impression that she glossed over that aspect of Zamperini’s wartime experinece. Though it wouldn’t surprise me if Jolie could achieve an Oscar nomination for Best Director within the next five years.
Though Jack O’Connell gave a good performance, I was actually very impressed with Takamasa Ishihara aka Miyavi’s performance as Mutsuhiro Watanabe.
