In 1983, a naive man with lethal narcotics hidden in his stomach is detained by Australian Federal Police. Alone and afraid, ‘the Mule’ makes a desperate choice; to defy his bodily functions and withhold the evidence…literally. And by doing so becomes a ‘human time-bomb’

The Mule is supposedly based on true events, though if you do any research into the events that the movie is based on you wont find anything. However, in interview that writer Leigh Whannell gave to Lights, Camera, News! Is both is and isn’t based on a true story.
I’ll admit it, I love it when Australian movies come out. Even though there is a blink and you’ll miss them quality to the Australian film industry it is always good to see Australian actors get roles in Australian movies.
If you have a weak stomach, maybe you shouldn’t eat while watching this one because it starts with an anal cavity search and later on in the movie there is possibly, one of the most disgusting scenes that I have ever seen in a movie. The Mule has a slow start but quickly develops into a battle of wills between a man, his colon and the Australian Federal police with a conclusion that I will not give any spoilers to.
There are quite a few familiar faces in this who all gave brilliant performances but both Hugo Weaving and Noni Hazlehurst where excellent and stole the spotlight from Angus Sampson.
