Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The involvement of Nickelodeon in the production of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles really did not fill me with a lot of confidence heading into this one, a production company that has better reputation for action movies might have been needed and as clumsy of a director he can be at times I would dare say that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ reboot on the big screen could have been benefited by having Michael Bay in the Director’s chair because there is no denying that the man knows how to direct an action sequence. A couple of halfway decent action sequences was something that was sorely needed in this movie. Though that being said Liebesman did manage to hit all the right emotional notes the blame for this squarely rests on the shoulders of the screen writers Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Evan Daugherty for lifting the plot device of a virus transforming New York City from The Amazing Spiderman which was released in 2012. Sure imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but boys you should have waited at least 3 years before putting that plot device back into a comic book movie. I think it’s rather bold of the filmmakers that they have scheduled a sequel for 2016 when the movie has yet to finish its international run at the box office but I suppose that should always be expected when it comes to comic book movies.
