A former DEA agent moves his family to a quiet town, where he soon tangles with a local meth drug lord.

When I saw the preview for Homefront I was really looking forward for its release. Even though this was a direct to DVD release in Australia don’t let that stop you from spending the time to watch it. Sylvester Stallone was one of the producers and Jason Statham, James Franco and Winona Ryder where all cast in leading roles. If you are looking for an action movie with brutal action to watch on a Friday night while drinking beer, then Homefront is for you.
Yes, Homefront had your prerequisite brutal action sequences, though for an action movie this was to slow paced for my taste. We all know how great James Franco and Winona Ryder are as actors. Unfortunately I really got the impression that they both could have given better performances, and as a villain Franco was the wrong choice to play opposite Statham. For a villain to be truly effective you need to believe that he able to lay the hero on his ass in a fist fight.
It should be noted that Homefront was adapted from a novel of the same name written by Chuck Logan featuring his character Phil Broker. Other novels featuring Phil Broker include Hunter’s Moon, Absolute Zero, Vapor Trail and After the Rain.
I really would be surprised if there would be a ‘Phil Broker’ movie franchise, personally I would prefer to see another Donald Westlake ‘Parker’ novel adapted into a movie.
