Greens call on Palmer United to Clarify Position on Direct Action Proposal

The Australian Greens have called on the Palmer United Political Party to clarify their position on upcoming votes on the clean energy package and the Abbott Government’s Direct Action proposal. Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne rejected Palmer’s calls to inquire further into ways to address ‘natural carbon’ in the environment.
“Clive Palmer must not flip-flop on this. We need real action on climate change, not the joke that is the Abbott government’s plan,” Senator Milne said “Direct Action means no action to stop the impacts of global warming on our communities and our environment, no-one voted for that.”
Senator Milne explained that the science is in and we know the best way to address harmful global warming is to make polluters pay. It would be a waste of time and money to conduct further inquiries. The Abbott government is attacking pensioners, saying there’s a budget emergency, but it’s more than happy to let polluters off the hook the Senator added.
“The existing polluter-pays laws raises money, while Greg Hunt’s Direct Action is going to cost big, gifting it an extra billion dollars and more to come in future budgets. All out of the community’s pocket.” Senator Milne said
