Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.

Even with the change in director from Gary Ross to Francis Lawrence Catching Fire for the most part proved to be a very watchable movie. For those of you who have been reading my reviews for a while might remember that one of my pet peeves is when a movie trilogy has a change in director usually because there can be a change in style in the movies.
I enjoyed the first two thirds which dealt with the aftermath of the events of the previous movie and it was all tense and very well done. Though a couple of times I could have sworn that Jennifer Lawrence might have channelled Kristen Stewart’s facial expressions from Twilight. Now considering that it has been that the first film of the franchise was released two years after the final book of the franchise was published I would have thought that the filmmakers would have tried to be a little less “Disney” with the fight sequences without falling into the realms of “Hobo with a shotgun” Somebody clearly did not care that fans of the novels have grown up (Though for the record I personally did not read the novels until the first film had been released).
I couldn’t help but wonder if Katniss’ bow and quiver of arrows seemed as if it was Francis Lawrence’s salute to the mystical reloading gun that is so commonly featured in bad 80’s action movies.

On a side note to anybody above the age of 30 who are thinking of going to see this movie I would suggest waiting a week to avoid the crowds of shrieking teenagers, and so that you don’t feel as old as I did when I went to the movies last night.
