Coe Claims Proposed Bus Changes Will Undermine ACT Government’s Light Rail Strategy

Shadow Minister for Transport Alistair Coe claims the proposed changes to the bus network, in particular Gungahlin bus services, undermine the ACT Government’s light rail strategy.
“Rather than treating Gungahlin Town Centre as a hub, which would be required for light rail, ACTION will now run continuous services to the City, Barton and Russell from numerous Gungahlin suburbs,” Mr Coe said.
Mr. Coe explained that under the proposed changes, people will be able to get one bus from Gungahlin suburbs; (Nicholls, Ngunnawal, Amaroo, Bonner and Forde) and travel to the City, Russell and Barton. In contrast, under light rail, people would be required to get a bus to Gungahlin Town Centre, a tram to the city and then another bus to Russell or Barton.
“The Government should also articulate whether buses 251, 252, 255 and 259 should continue after the introduction of light rail.” Mr. Coe commented.
