Score 2.5/6

A homicide detective, while investigating a series of murders becomes the prime suspect when the FBI uncovers his close personal ties to all the victims.

In its own way The River Murders did come across as being a brutal movie. Though it seemed that the filmmakers showed restraint and refused to take the movie the dark depths it needed to be taken, to the point that the ending seemed to be a cop out.
I have found it interesting that religious fundamentalists make some of cinemas most sadistic villains. Even though religion has been the cause for so many conflicts throughout the world, it is always interesting to see how far these villains interpret religious teaching.
