Fright Night ( 1985 )

Directed by Tom Holland
Staring Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale and Amanda Bearse
Rated M
Score 6/6

When a teenager learns that his next-door neighbour is a vampire, no one will believe him.

Tom Holland’s original version of Fright Night sets the overall tone of the movie fairly early one and the good thing is that it doesn’t seem to hide from the type of movie that it is. Should you make the bold decision for a Fright Night movie marathon you will find that there is some subtle character differences between how several of the characters in the original film where portrayed compared to the recently released remake. William Ragsdale did not have the stereotypical action hero, meathead look. Ragsdale was more of the stereotypical ordinary man thrown into an extraordinary situation.
I found that the image of a vampire melting when it died visually had more impact and was more confronting as opposed to the tried and true Hollywood standard of the vampire bursting into flame and leaving nothing but a pile of ash
