Bunraku

Directed by Guy Moshe
Staring Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson
Rated MA
Score 6/6

In a world with no guns, a mysterious drifter, a bartender and a young samurai plot revenge against a ruthless leader and his army of thugs, headed by nine diverse and deadly assassins.

Bunraku is an amazing movie to watch, it has a similar graphic novel style to movies such as Sin City and The Spirit. However, what sets Bunraku apart from these movies is how Director Guy Moshe has not only blended different film genres but also blended different storying telling styles. There was also an interesting storybook quality to the movie which was achieved through the use of a narrator and rather creative transitions. Just like the rest of the movie even Bunraku’s soundtrack got into the spirit blending different styles of music, mainly focusing on big band music.
There is an amazing cast but everybody seemed to give very, understated performances but there really was not much room for any emotional range, but that really was not the point of the movie.
