Health funding boost, sees new office block plans scrapped

Both Chief Minister and Minister for Health, Katy Gallagher, and the Deputy Chief Minister and Treasurer, Andrew Barr recently announced a $500 million increase public health infrastructure across Canberra including building a new sub-acute hospital in northern Canberra. It was also announced that plans for a new office block were scrapped and that funds originally dedicated for the building of the new office block will be used to pay for the funding increase.
“This decision means almost half a billion dollars in additional funding will be devoted to the delivery of new health infrastructure across Canberra – including a new sub-acute hospital,” Chief Minister Gallagher commented.
After the scrapping of the planned Office block, ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja has questioned the credibility of Chief Minister Katy Gallagher and that ACT Labor has been failing to deliver on its promises.
“This is a government, which originally promised a four lane GDE. In 2004, Katy Gallagher promised not to close schools. In 2008, Katy Gallagher said all her health plans were on the table when she was secretly trying to buy Calvary hospital. Today, she has promised to deliver on health when she hasn’t been able to for the past ten years.” Mr Seselja Said.
