Corporal Chris Merrimette is put in charge of a unit whose next mission is to resupply a remote outpost on the edge of Taliban-controlled territory. While driving through the hostile Helmand province, a Navy SEAL flags down their convoy and enlists the unit on an operation of international importance: they must help an Afghan woman famous for her defiance of the Taliban escape the country.

Let’s get one thing clear straight off the bat, Jarhead 2: Field of Fire is a non-sequel sequel. That means that Field of Fire has nothing to do with the 2005 movie Jarhead starring by Jake Gyllenhaal & Jamie Foxx or the 2003 novel written by Anthony Swofford that the movie is adapted from.
As best as I can remember Field of Fire has a vaguely similar feel to the 2005 movie with a voice over by the main character but that is when the similarities between the two movies end. I am not very familiar with Director Don Michael Paul’s work, I am pretty sure that the only movie of his that I have seen Company of Heroes, I didn’t like that much. But with this movie he has managed to win me over a little bit.
Field of Fire is probably the first decent non-sequel sequel movie that I have seen in a while, in all honesty where possible I try to avoid them if I can, generally because these kind of movies have a tendency attempt to build off of the reputation of the ‘original’ movie, I really did not see too much of that here. This was a simple enough story well told. There were a couple of actors involved with this that I was familiar with though I was unfamiliar with the majority of the cast and I found that I was kind of impressed with Josh Kelly and Danielle Savre’s performances.
