The story of Jackie Robinson from his signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization in 1945 to his historic 1947 rookie season when he broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball.

Ok, I have to admit that there was a large gap between when I brought 42 and actually took the time to sit down and watch it. As glib as you can be about ‘sports’ movies and how they seldom rejuvenate the genre and are very formulaic , part of me wished that I did not so long till I watched 42.
I’ve always found movies with historical elements interesting and that is definitely what attracted me to the movie in the first, though considering that I am not overly familiar with the history of American Baseball I just hope that 42 was not overly condensed for artistic and timing purposes. A risk that most movies with historical elements face regardless of the genre.
I am familiar with director Brian Helgeland’s work, I particularly enjoyed his 2003 movie The Order. I’m not overly familiar with Chadwick Boseman’s work he gave a great performance and struck me as having a great on screen presence. Harrison Ford gave a brilliant performance 42 was the first time that Harrison Ford played a real life character.
